What is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is an alternative form of medicine. Rather than focusing on treating the symptoms of a specific health issue — like anxiety or attention deficit disorder — functional medicine focuses on treating the root cause. Root causes can stem from interactions between the environment and other biological systems (such as the immune system, gastrointestinal system, and more). When we know the root cause of the disease, we can then use functional medicine to treat it. That way, you as the patient can feel your best. Functional medicine has been proven to help and be popular among patients with the following problems:
• Auto-Immune Issues
• Thyroid Issues
Our Approach and Philosophy
In conventional medicine, there’s a doctor for every part of your body, but in functional medicine, we see the body as an interconnected whole, within a larger environment. We recognize that in order to treat one part of the body, all of the other parts must also be considered. We provide a natural holistic approach rooted in functional medicine using traditional as well as unconventional tools to identify and recommend a treatment plan for your symptoms.
Hi, I’m Laurie Wallis – Registered Nurse and Functional Medicine Practitioner. I have been a registered nurse for over 25 years, and I have had my health and wellness practice here in Danville for 16 years.
I call myself a health investigator and use my background in traditional medicine along with the latest cutting-edge research in functional medicine to investigate the root causes of any issues you may be having.
I take the results from your assessments, bloodwork, and biofeedback and investigate the root of the cause. I then help support you in developing a treatment plan that focuses on natural treatments (diet, lifestyle, supplements, and neutraceuticals) so that you can avoid the risks and side effects of pharmaceuticals.
I’m a Chicago native that has called Danville home for the last 16 years. I love the California sunshine. When I’m not busy running my business and raising my two teenage sons, I try to spend as much time as I can outdoors – hiking, biking, and swimming. I am passionate about health and wellness and have been studying and using natural types of wellness for myself and family since I was 11 years old.
